The 2009 Habitat for Humanity of Memphis Spring Build, sponsored in part by Germantown Presbyterian Church (GPC), has been completed. GPC and Germantown United Methodist Church (GUMC) volunteers were busy with construction on a home in the Binghampton area of Memphis. The third sponsor was Phizer Corporation. Below are photos showing the progress of construction, work in progress and dedication ceremony. The 4 bedroom, two bath home at 2620 Pershing will be the residence of Cheryl Weaver and her two sons, Marcus and Terrance.

At the beginning, the slab was laid and a few walls were in place.

Walls are constucted and the exterior is wrapped with insulation after the first weekend of work by volunteers from Germantown Presbyterian and Germantown United Methodist.

The roof sturcture is added the second weekend.

Roof decking is cut and attached the third weekend.

Roofing and siding is attached the fourth weekend.

Siding and roof are completed and interior walls, trim and paint are completed.

The sod goes down.

With the help of many volunteers, the lawn gets laid within minutes.

The residents, Cheryl Weaver, and one of her two sons, Marcus, help with construction and laying sod.

The completed lawn is ready for the rain that follows.

GPC's Austin Simmons and George McGaha nail shingles to the roof at 2620 Pershing.

With shoes left at the door to avoid tracking mud through the completed home, new owner Cheryl Weaver gives the grand tour to volunteers Anita and William Sessoms of GUMC and Sharon Goldsworthy of GPC. This, along with the didication ceremony the following Saturday, was the culmination of their weeks of labor. They all shared a sense of pride and accomplishent in the completed home.

In the kitchen/laundry area, the tour has a lighthearted moment of  reminiscing.

In front of 2620 Pershing, the a cappella group Transition sang Wade in the Water and Ask God for a Blessing at the dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
