Memphis Interfaith Hospitality Network
Host Week Volunteer Opportunities
August 15-22, 2010
What is it?
Memphis Interfaith Hospitality Network is a ministry designed to help homeless families by combining safe and comfortable surroundings. It’s the only program in the Memphis area that allows entire families to stay together, with close to 20 host churches participating. Each host church volunteers 3 - 4 weeks each year to host the families.
A typical day
Monday-Friday the guests get up around 5:30 - 6:00 a.m. They prepare their breakfast and leave for the day site at First Baptist Church around 6:30 a.m. If the guests do not have transportation, the MIHN van picks them up at the host church. They spend most of the day at the day site searching for employment, looking for housing, receiving counseling and working with the director on other issues causing their situation. The guests return to the host church around 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. Dinner is served at 6:45 p.m.
How can I help or volunteer?
GPC will be hosting this event August 15-21. This mission requires the help of many volunteers in order to ensure its success. Please mark the area(s) in which you would like to assist. You will be contacted to discuss your participation. Questions? Contact Chris Ham, 901-754-5195, ext. 15.
