founded 1989
Located in the bright and cheery Robert G. Jordan, Jr. Learning Center in the South Building of Germantown Presbyterian Church, the purpose of the Germantown Presbyterian Church's Preschool is to provide a Christian environment for social and academic development. In this atmosphere of mutual respect and affection, GPP can instill healthy social skills and self-discipline. The love of learning is generated, self-realization is facilitated, and all children are encouraged to feel respected and accepted as members of a group.
The Preschool is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., August through May. A Summer Mini-Camp is also offered. The program includes classes for children 15 months through 5 years of age.
Curriculum:
Learning encompasses the whole child in developmentally appropriate activities designed to enhance social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive growth. In small classes, the children engage in hands-on play-based activities to encourage inquiry, hypothesizing and exploration. Interest centers promote language development and imagination as well as social interaction.
Faculty:
6 degreed lead teachers and 6 experienced assistant teachers provide a nurturing and stable environment to foster trust, security, and love of learning. These 12 enthusiastic staff members have collectively over 150 years of teaching experience and over 1,600 hours of continuing education classes! Teacher turnover is low, with almost half of the faculty having been at GPP 10 years or more.
Director:
Ilace Mears joined the staff in May, 2001, only the second director in the history of the Preschool. Has Elementary/Early Childhood Ed. Degree, teaching experience in first grade and preschool, and 10 years experience as director and assistant director in another NAEYC –accredited program.

Statement of Philosophy
Germantown Presbyterian Preschool is a Christian school. We believe that in a safe atmosphere of mutual respect and affection, social habits are established, self-discipline is developed, a love of learning is generated, self-realization is facilitated, and respect for the principles of our Christian faith is developed. We believe that children learn best through play and that planned, “hands-on” activities best direct growth in the following areas: Social, Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, and Academic.
Our Goals
- Expose children to the wonders of God’s created world.
- Expose children to the elements of the Christian faith.
- Create a love of learning, so that learning can become self-education.
- Respect the uniqueness and individual differences of each child.
- Increase self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Improve social interaction.
- Provide a wide variety of techniques of learning.
- Allow all students to learn at their own rate and in whatever mode of learning suits their needs.
- Foster principles of good citizenship.
- Instill respect for self and others.
- Provide a relaxed, unpressured, flexible yet structured atmosphere with a caring faculty, in order to enhance achievement.
