9:30 am, Warren Hall – Special Adult Sunday School speaker, Dr. Carmichael Crutchfield
August 13 is Kickoff Sunday at GPC, and to start the program year, the Adult Education Committee is hosting Dr. Carmichael Crutchfield of Memphis Theological Seminary to speak in Warren Hall, 9:30 am – 10:30 am.
Dr. Crutchfield is an alumnus of
Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Memphis Theological Seminary, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Tennessee-Martin. He joined the faculty of Memphis Theological Seminary in 2012 and has research and publishing interests in Human Development, Christian Formation, African American Adolescent Males, Discipleship, and Critical Pedagogy. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Christian Education, Spiritual Formation, and Youth Ministry.
In addition to his academic work, he also serves as the General Secretary of the Department of Christian Education in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
Dr. Crutchfield will share about the topic of spiritual formation and its importance in the individual life of the Christian and in the collective life of the church.

4:00 pm, lower field – Fall Kickoff Kickball & Cookout
The August congregational life event will be the Fall Kickoff and Cookout on August 13 beginning at 4:00 pm. This inter-generational event will signal the launch of fall programming at GPC. Grilled burgers and hot dogs, with chips, drinks, and cookies will all be provided by the church. Activities will include kickball, gaga pit, corn hole, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, and playground for the little tykes. Church members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a tent for shade if they have one.
