On September 17 the Session approved for GPC to serve as the ministry practicum internship site for Ms. Kirsten King for the 2020-2021 academic year. Kirsten is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Columbia Theological Seminary (PCUSA), in Decatur, GA and will be mentored during her time here by Rev. Susan Carter Wiggins. Prior to pursuing theological education, Kirsten worked in a variety of finance, product development, and engineering technology roles, most recently at FedEx. Kirsten was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Michigan, graduating with a degree in Economics from the University of Michigan, and then later an MBA from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Kirsten lived and worked in New Jersey and Virginia before moving to Tennessee. She is a ruling elder at Farmington Presbyterian Church in Germantown where she and her husband Paul have been members for eighteen years. Kirsten has served as Moderator of the Presbytery of the Mid-South and as Moderator of Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery. She currently serves as Vice-Moderator of Presbyterian Women for the Synod of Living Waters.

The purpose of the supervised ministry experience is to explore a range of pastoral functions in a congregational setting to clarify vocational calling, develop pastoral relationships, and strengthen professional, personal, and spiritual skills and practices. Kirsten sought a placement at GPC, saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity to experience Christian community within a large, established, multi-program church setting. Additionally, I value the opportunity for a mentorship with Rev. Wiggins who successfully transitioned mid-career from business to pastoral ministry. Her responsibilities in pastoral care and work in advocacy of women’s issues provide an additional opportunity for new participation and learning.”

Pastor Susie said, “Kirsten will have the opportunity to work within all areas of ministry at GPC during her tenure with us. We are excited for GPC to be a teaching community of faith and invite you to join us in welcoming Kirsten as she partners with us in witness and service to God.”
